Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The inversion is applied inside your browser, so your image never leaves your device and nothing is stored on our servers.

What does inverting colours do?

Each colour is replaced by its opposite, so black becomes white, white becomes black, and every other colour becomes its complement. For example, red becomes cyan and blue becomes yellow.

Can I reverse it?

Yes. Inverting is its own reverse. Download the inverted image, upload it again and the original colours come back. You can also press Compare to see the original at any time.

Is it the same as a negative?

It is very close to a black and white negative. Real colour negatives also have an orange tint from the film base, so an inverted scan will need some colour correction.

Which file types can I use, and what do I get back?

You can add PNG, JPG, GIF and WebP images. The result is always downloaded as a PNG. For animated GIFs, only the first frame is used.

Why was my large image made smaller?

To keep your browser responsive, images longer than 4000 pixels on their longest side are scaled down before editing. The line under the preview shows the original and resized dimensions.
