Base64 Encode/Decode

Need to encode text into Base64 or decode an existing Base64 string back into readable text? This tool makes it easy to convert between the two formats, updating the results as you type. With support for Unicode characters, including accented letters, symbols, and characters from different languages, it's useful for developers working with APIs, web applications, data transfer, and other tasks involving Base64-encoded text.

Simply enter your text to encode it or paste a Base64 string to decode it. Everything is processed directly in your browser, with nothing sent to a server, keeping your input private and under your control.

Good to know

Nothing is uploaded

Encoding and decoding happen entirely in your browser.

Unicode-safe

Emoji, accented letters and other non-English characters are encoded correctly, not just plain ASCII text.

Not encryption

Base64 just re-represents data in a different format — anyone can decode it instantly. Don't use it to protect secrets.

Frequently asked questions

What is Base64 used for?

It's a way of representing binary or text data using only 64 printable characters, which makes it safe to embed in places that expect plain text, such as inside JSON, URLs, email attachments or a data: URI in HTML/CSS.

Why did decoding fail?

The text in the Base64 box isn't valid Base64 — it may be missing characters, have extra characters that aren't part of the Base64 alphabet, or come from a different encoding (such as Base64URL, which uses - and _ instead of + and /).

Does Base64 make data smaller?

No, the opposite — Base64 text is roughly 33% larger than the original data, since it trades compactness for being safely represented as plain text.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Both encoding and decoding happen locally in your browser.
