Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The effect is applied inside your browser, so your image never leaves your device and nothing is stored on our servers.
How does the emboss filter work?
For each pixel the filter compares it with its neighbours. Where the image gets lighter in one direction it adds a highlight, and where it gets darker it adds a shadow. That makes edges look raised or pressed in.
Why is there no slider?
This version applies the standard emboss effect at a single strength, so the result appears as soon as your image loads. If you want a stronger or softer look, adjust brightness or contrast on the downloaded result.
Why does the result look grey?
The filter works on differences between neighbouring pixels, so flat areas become a mid grey while edges are highlighted. That is normal for an emboss effect.
Which file types can I use, and what do I get back?
You can add PNG, JPG, GIF and WebP images. The result is always downloaded as a PNG. For animated GIFs, only the first frame is used.
Why was my large image made smaller?
The filter looks at the neighbours of every pixel, which is slow on huge images. To keep your browser responsive, images longer than 2500 pixels on their longest side are scaled down before editing. The line under the preview shows the original and resized dimensions.
