PNG

Lossless, supports transparency. Best for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges or text.

JPEG

Widely supported, good for photos. No transparency support — transparent areas become white.

WebP

Usually the smallest file size for a given quality, and still supports transparency. Supported by all modern browsers.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to transparency when converting to JPEG?

JPEG doesn't support transparency, so any transparent areas are filled with white in the converted file.

Will converting reduce image quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPEG or WebP is lossy, so the quality slider controls the trade-off between file size and detail.

Can I convert an animated GIF?

This tool accepts PNG, JPEG and WebP source files. For animated images, only a single still frame could be preserved, so GIFs aren't accepted here.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API, and the file is never sent to a server.
