Tips for a good read

Keep the whole code in view

Include all of the code and a little blank space around it. If it is cut off at the edges it may not be found.

Use a sharp, well lit image

Blurry, dark or glare covered photos are the usual cause of a failed read. A screenshot is better than a photo of a screen.

Check before you scan

Look at the address in a link before you open it. Be careful with codes stuck over other codes, and with payment requests.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is read by your browser on your own device and is never sent to our server. When you close or reload the page it is gone.

Why does it say no QR code was found?

The image may be blurry, too small, cut off, or too dark. Try a clearer or larger picture, crop it close to the code, or take a screenshot instead of a photo. Barcodes and other kinds of 2D codes cannot be read by this tool.

Which kinds of QR code can it explain?

It breaks down web links, email, phone numbers, SMS messages, Wi-Fi networks, contact cards (vCard and MeCard), map locations, WhatsApp and PayPal links, and cryptocurrency payments. Anything else is shown as plain text.

Does it open the link for me?

No. Nothing is opened automatically. You can read the address first and then choose to open it, which is the safest way to deal with a code you do not trust.

Can it read a code with a logo in the middle?

Usually, yes. QR codes carry extra data to repair small gaps, so a small logo is fine as long as the rest of the code is clear.

Can I decode more than one code in a picture?

This tool reads one code at a time. If your picture has several, crop it so only the one you want is in view.
